Obituary

Lewis Arthur Stewart, Jr., 74

Lewis Stewart will be cherished in the memories of his dear friends and family as a bright light who enriched their lives with his caring, laughter, and many tall tales and jokes full of the best kind of humor.

Lewis Arthur Stewart, Jr., 74, died on Monday, 14 June 2021. His sudden death leaves us in sorrow for the loss of our friend, our family member, and a fine citizen of Simpsonville. His parents were Lewis Arthur and Ann Fendley Stewart. In addition to his many friends and cousins, Lewis is survived by three aunts: Betty Woolbright, Avanelle McCord, and Evelyn Fendley.

Lewis was a good man, a man who brought positive, hopeful energy to all that he did. His love and caring for his mother and father during both good times and illness was a natural and exceptional part of his life.

His Christian faith was important to Lewis and was demonstrated in his vocation and in his daily living in our community. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Simpsonville where he served in many capacities in youth programs, coaching, teaching, and in mission trips to Honduras, Brazil, and Alaska.

Lewis was retired from many years’ service as a counselor in the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. At the time of his death, he was continuing his love of counseling people through his work in the SPICE program at Greenville Technical College. Lewis’s life at work and in his other activities demonstrated his persistent drive to always help and uplift others.

Those who knew Lewis were always aware of his enormous support for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Lewis earned his undergraduate degree from UGA as well as a graduate degree from Clemson University. He was a staunch supporter of the Bulldog football team. He loved golf, football, skydiving, his church, kids…he loved and was always fully engaged in life. His organizational participation included Rotary Club, Kiwanis, and Chamber of Commerce. Lewis was a ray of sunlight wherever he went. He will be missed by many from all walks of life.

A viewing is arranged for Thursday, 17 June, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Service in Fountain Inn.

Lewis’s funeral will be held in the North Auditorium of First Baptist Simpsonville at 11 o’clock on Friday, 18 June. Entombment following the service will be at Graceland East Memorial Park.
