Street Survival Tactics

Good morning Street Survivors and welcome back.

How are you and yours holding up on the wild COVID-19 roller coaster ride? Much has changed since my last article at the beginning of this Chinese virus threat, but one thing has become very clear to anyone paying attention. Our medical teams have been on the forefront of this war against an invisible enemy, and like our Emergency Responders from Police, Fire, EMS and Air Ambulances, they deserve our respect and appreciation. Despite the risk to themselves and their families, these medical professionals in all job descriptions, continue to go to work for long hours with limited supplies, and for little recognition. We should thank them at every opportunity.

The current drive to defund or dismantle our police departments shows as much ignorance as a human being is capable of generating. The cities that are following this pathetic political pathway (PPP), are already seeing massive increases in violent crime including shootings and homicides. Many of the victims are very young children, in addition to the continued assault on our police officers with ambushes taking place almost daily. For years in this column I have identified YOU as the First Responder in the protection and security of your family members. Having a weaker police department raises the stakes and increases the possibility that you may have to take strong defensive measures to defend your home, vehicle or person.

The Chinese virus threat has exposed some serious deficiencies in our preparation as a country, but also at our personal family level. Creating and maintaining our own supply of American-made Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), as well as pharmaceuticals and medical equipment like ventilators, is critical to the independence we need as a country. We can no longer be at the mercy of foreign countries and the companies they control, for life-saving products needed by American citizens. Long ago we realized that our military machine should not rely on ammunition and weapons systems from other countries for our national defense. We need to apply those same principles to the critical items necessary for our medical health as well!

Closer to home, this experience has shown the dependence we have on stores being open for critical supplies, including family medicines and other necessities. Ever think you’d be standing in a line of 200 people, 6 ft apart to get toilet paper ? That’s an identifying characteristic of Socialist governments, not the U.S. of A !! Use this time to prepare a plan for maintaining a stockpile of necessary items in your home and office for future events. This was a great wakeup call for American families.

Many of us in the conservative community also feel the government overreach in dealing with this threat was over the top. Shutting down flights from infected countries early on, certainly had a big impact on reducing exposure to our citizens, but the restrictions imposed by a few states and individual cities seemed overbearing at the least and reflected more of an exercise in citizen control than anything else. This of course is my opinion, but I’ve heard similar thoughts from other speakers and writers that I typically agree with. Certainly, this virus is a serious threat, but the annual flu takes thousands of lives every year, and we don’t shut down our economic engine to deal with it. I do hope we come out of this experience stronger as a nation and more convinced of the values of our freedoms, every day.

On the positive side, once we can gather again with our families for special events like birthdays and holidays, and with our co-workers and other social contacts, I believe we will have a newfound appreciation for those simple things we used to take for granted.
