A Meeting of International Teachers in Laurens Co.

Richard Fowler of Inman conducted an educational workshop for his International teachers in historic downtown Owings. After the morning session and lunch the teachers went to the Culbertson Backcountry Settlement in Gray Court.

Sarah Jane Armstrong gave group a tour of the 1800 log cabins, church, the 1900 Piney Grove School, Revolutionary War Blockhouse, and other vintage buildings. They were amazed at the humble beginnings of America. The one room African American School was mesmerizing.

The teachers are teaching foreign language in our High Schools and return home in 3 years. They are teaching in several counties of South Carolina. It was an honor to show them Laurens County. It was wonderful to be host to a dedicated, enthusiastic group of teachers.

From left to right in front of the old school are the participants from these countries.

VENEZUELA, COLOMBIA, COSTA RICA, ROMANIA and JAMAICA.
