Popular Fountain Inn Principal, Teacher and WWII Veteran, “Mr.T” passes away

David McDowell Thomason, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, departed his earthly home, heaven bound on December 19, 2018.

Born in Fountain Inn, SC on October 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Fletcher Thomason and Ellen Templeton Thomason.

Fondly known as Mr. “T” he was the principal at Fountain Inn Elementary for 18 years until his retirement in 1988. Prior to that he was the principal of Augusta Circle Elementary School and a teacher at Fountain Inn Elementary and Mauldin Elementary. He volunteered for service in 1944 during WWII. He served aboard a destroyer, the USS Mannert L Abele which was sunk at Okinawa on April 12, 1946. He shared his memories of his time in service with numerous school groups, civic groups, and scout troops. He was a long-time member of Fountain Inn First Baptist church, serving as a deacon, leading a grief support group, and teaching Sunday school for more than 60 years.

Mr. “T” had a faith and enthusiasm for life that was contagious. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving and loyal wife of 11 years, Norma Jean Thomason. He is survived by daughters, Donna Marie Thomason and Karen Kay Thomason-Brumbaugh (Bruce); step-daughters, Tina Wilburn, Cathy Robinson (Gene), Tammy Werts (Larry), step-granddaughter, Amanda Engley (Cameron), sister-in-law, Anne Summers Turner and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Thelma Rose Turner Thomason and siblings; Henry Thomason Sr., Douglas Thomason, Joe Thomason and Louis Thomason.
Visitation will be held at Fountain Inn First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12:30 pm – 2:15 pm on Saturday, December 22, 2018. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm at the church. Interment services with military honors will be private.
