Simpsonville, S.C. — With two new leaf vacuum trucks, the City of Simpsonville is collecting loose leaves curbside for the next three months.
The Public Works Department will collect leaves raked into long lines at curbs in November, December and January. Collection will start on the eastern side of Interstate-385 with one truck at the north end along S.C. Highway 14 and the second truck at the south end as they move toward the center of the City. The same procedure will happen on the western side of I-385.
Public Works Director Jay Crawford said the City is glad to provide the service. “Our goal will be to make a pass through the entire City once per month,” Crawford said. “During the heaviest periods, we may run slower.” Crawford added the brush grapple trucks can supplement the leaf vacuums during those periods.
“Please know that it could be up to a month or more before your loose leaves are collected,” Crawford said. “However, you can continue to bag your leaves and Ace will remove them each week on your scheduled collection day.”
The Public Works Department provided the following directions for residents:
• Only loose leaves will be collected.
• It is important the leaves are raked into a long line at the curb so the leaf vacuums can collect them.
• Leaves must be free of trash and other yard debris such as tree limbs, rocks, mulch, hedge trimmings and grass clippings.
• Avoid piling leaves in front of storm drains, hydrants or on top of utility accesses (water meters, irrigation systems, etc.).
• Avoid piling leaves in front of mailboxes, utility poles and guywires.
• Do not block traffic lanes or create line-of-site hazards for motorists.
• Put no more than 50 pounds of grass and other yard debris, like hedge trimmings, in plastic yard bags for weekly pickup throughout the year.
• Brush will be collected separately throughout the year. Collection of brush may be delayed during leaf season.
The trucks will not collect leaves on Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Nov. 23rd, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
