Home Depot volunteers clean and care for Veterans Memorial

In August, a group of volunteers with Home Depot on Woodruff Road cleaned Mauldin’s Veteran Memorial, which sits on Butler on the grounds of the Mauldin Sports Center. Chris Wilson and her fellow volunteers gave their time as one of many service projects that the group takes part in to keep connected with the Upstate community.

Wilson chose the site of the Veterans Memorial as the focus of this service project because veterans are “near and dear to [her] heart,” since both Wilson’s husband Dale and some of her coworkers are veterans themselves. The volunteers placed fresh pine straw around the memorial and planted flowers to brighten up the area. Wilson, who passes by the memorial frequently during her daily travels, said the volunteers wanted to draw the attention of passersby to the memorial to remind people of those who have served in the military.

Those who volunteered in August included Terry Barrett, Christy Crain, Lynda Hennessy, Dave Pelenberg, Judy Pinoni, Jordan Pinoni, Holly Przekop, Chris Wilson, and Dale Wilson. Home Depot employees complete many service projects throughout the community, especially projects that benefit or commemorate veterans. The group plans to take part in November’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony, which will be held Monday, November 12, 2018, 11 a.m. at the Mauldin Veterans Memorial.
