Dollie I. Younts of Fountain Inn, wife of Melvin K. Younts with their marriage of 67 years, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the age of 88 with her family by her side. “Miss Dollie” was a native of Cheraw, South Carolina. Dollie was a graduate of Columbia College with a BS degree in science. She taught eighth-grade at San Souci Junior High for four years and taught at Winnsboro Junior High for one year while Melvin was finishing law school.
Dollie was President of the Fountain Inn Garden Club and won many blue ribbons for flower arrangements in various Greenville County flower shows. Sheila Miller, of FIGC offered these thoughts of Dollie’s garden club activities, “Dollie was member of Fountain Inn Garden Club for over 55 years. She served as President two times and officiated in other offices through her many years of active service. She was well known throughout South Carolina for her floral designs and won many Blue Ribbons at the Greenville County Fair over the decades. Her home was frequently on the Garden Club Spring Tour in the 70-80s. Dollie’s years in Fountain Garden Club will be remembered with memoriam in our 2018 FIGC Yearbook and a donation to Greenville Council of Garden Clubs in her memory!”
She was a member of the Fountain Inn First Baptist Church and thoroughly loved the ladies Sunday School class and provided religious pictures and contributions for class projects in the Fountain Inn area. In addition to the above, Dollie enjoyed playing golf and was President of the Fox Run Country Club Lady’s Association for two years. Playing in many amateur individuals and couples golf tournaments, Dollie scored hole-inone during a tournament in North Carolina!
When Dollie wasn’t busy with her many activities she would provide a free service of interior decorating to several developments including the Younts Performing Arts Center in Fountain Inn and the Younts South Club area at Memorial Football Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. Of her many activities, playing bridge and working in her flower garden were among her favorite pastimes. Dollie and her husband Melvin, contributed much to charities throughout Greenville County and the Upstate of South Carolina including the Younts Convention Center at Furman University, the North Greenville University football stadium, the Columbia College soccer complex, the Marie Younts Girls Home of Connie Maxwell in Mauldin, South Carolina, the Younts Performing Arts Center in Fountain Inn, the Innovation Center of Greenville Technical College at ICAR, the Younts South Club area in Memorial Stadium at Clemson University and participants in the new chapel to be constructed at Clemson University. Dollie had one daughter and four sons followed by 14 grandchildren, and to date, eight grandchildren! She spent a lot of time loving and caring for family members as they grew up and developed. Dollie was greatly loved by her family, who affectionately called her “Meme”.♦
