Simpsonville Harmony Garden kicks off its 2018 spring planting season with the help of volunteers and Lowe’s Home Improvment of Simpsonville.
The Simpsonville Harmony Garden, located on Academy Street between the Simpsonville Fire Department Administration offices and the Simpsonville Arts Center, is a volunteer driven project that provides fresh produce to local churches and food pantries. Now in its third season, the Harmony Garden has provided hundreds of pounds of fresh, healthy food to members of our community in need.
On Friday, April 6, 2018, volunteers planted lettuce, peppers, squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, okra, and cabbage. All of which was donated by Lowe’s Home Improvement of Simpsonville. Throughout the springs, volunteers will continue to work in the garden to weed, water, and harvest produce. The Harmony Garden volunteers will plant again in the fall.
Lowe’s Home Improvement of Simpsonville has been a supporter of the community garden since the beginning. The store, located at 3958 Grandview Drive in Simpsonville, donated materials and labor to build 23 raised beds, which includes the 3 additional beds built on Friday, April 6, 2018 for the upcoming planting.
The donation has been a large contributor to the success of the garden making it easier for volunteers to manage. Volunteers have seen a reduction in weeds and an increase in harvest since the first raised beds were built in 2015.♦
