About Your New Year’s Resolution!

Every year, I make a resolution not to make more resolutions, but for some inexplicable reason and without fail, I do it anyway.

What about you? Did you make any resolutions for the new year? How’s it going?

The second Friday of January is known as “Quitter’s Day,” because according to various studies, that’s the most popular day for people to fall off the resolution wagon. In other words, if you’re still plugging away at your promise to yourself now that we’re in February, congratulations. You’re ahead of the curve.

Losing weight and getting in shape have historically been among the most popular resolutions, and according to a Marist College poll examining the top resolutions for 2018, this year was no exception.

Getting in shape isn’t easy. Trust me. I know from experience. It takes conscious decisions and intentional effort to make it happen, but the City of Mauldin tries to make it easier.

If you’re asking how we do that, I’m glad. Here’s one way.

Let me point you to 10 City Center Drive in Mauldin (next to the Mauldin Cultural Center) and introduce you to the Mauldin Sports Center.

Opened in 2007, the Mauldin Sports Center is a city-owned and operated full-service fitness center that offers something for everyone – from the person who’s never stepped foot in a gym to a full-on fitness enthusiast.

Inside you’ll find a 3800 sq. ft. fitness area, a 2100 sq. ft. climbing center with a 32 ft. rock wall, a 12,800 sq. ft. gym with a 94 ft. regulation basketball court and two 74 ft. side courts, a 2700 sq. ft. group exercise room, and a 1/10 mile indoor track for walking and running.

Group fitness classes for all fitness levels are included with memberships and are taught by certified instructors and are available in a monthly schedule, so you can plan your calendar in advance.

Aside from the Mauldin Sports Center’s convenient location and breadth of fitness offerings, compared to other local comprehensive fitness centers, it’s extremely affordable.

With tailored membership plans for people in a variety of stages of their lives (walking pass memberships, student memberships, individual adult memberships, family memberships, and senior memberships), there is a plan for just about everyone.

If you’re a business looking for a corporate membership to offer a health benefit for your employees, we can work on that, too.

If you’d like to schedule a tour, would like more information, or just want to say, “Hi,” to our new Recreation Director Joe Lanahan, please drop him a note at jlanahan@mauldinrecreation.com or call the Mauldin Sports Center at (864) 335-4875.

Don’t let the second Friday in January be your “Quitter’s Day” when it comes to your health-related new year’s resolution. We want you to be around for 2019, too.
