New Year, new opportunities, and thoughts of a new home

Wow…we made it…2018 is finally here!  What are your plans for the year?  Do you need up upgrade for your growing family?  Did you become an empty nester?  Have you been talking for years about getting more land?  Whatever it is that peeks your interest in a move, I’m here to discuss it with you.  It’s a great time to sell because home values are better than before and it’s an amazing time to buy because the interest rates are still low.

I’ve researched many experts’ opinions on the expectations of the 2018 housing market.  I believe Inman sums it up best with “The 2017 real estate market, characterized by a relentless listings shortage, surging home prices and a noisy political climate fueling uncertainty about the future, wasn’t without its challenges. Yet real estate professionals have weathered years far less rosy, and with a strong economy propelling job growth (and putting unemployment at a 17-year low), 2018 housing is poised for slow and steady gains — and perhaps a little more balance” — say a panel of experts who shared their insights with Inman.

One of the biggest influences in our changing market this year will be the influx of Millennials buying their first home.  We’ll discuss that in greater detail next month, but expect some differences we’ve never encountered before.

Since it’s winter, I do want to point out one major factor in our local market…weather.  Each year the Northerners have to endure the cold and snowfalls one…more…time.  Eventually it becomes more than they want to contend with.  I speak this from experience.  Having moved here just a few years ago from Chicago, I can attest that more and more eyes are on the South.  The Carolinas are on their radars and Greenville, SC is a definite contender as they choose a warmer more stable climate.

All this to say, if you have considered selling your house, this is the best time to get that ball rolling.  And if you want to buy a home, the interest rates are still very much attractive, but will likely start to rise.  I’m more than happy to have a conversation with you and answer any questions you may have.  This is the year to make your move and take advantage of a New Year, New Opportunities, and a New Home.
