The Sentinel visited the set last week and observed a well-organized casual production that reflected the down-to-earth attitude of the hosts and guests. Guests were made to feel comfortable and comments were both interesting and informative. Megan commented, “We get to hang out with guests and discuss things that our viewers are interested in.”

The show is produced at the WSPA studio in Spartanburg and directed onset at the Michelin Studios on Main in Greenville. Heather Husson and Cynthia Woodfin handle the field production of the show
that airs for one hour five days a week on Channel 7.

Using the information from the station’s web-site, it’s easy to see that Megan and Jack have interesting backgrounds that complement the show.

Megan Heidlberg, Growing up in a family of broadcasters, Megan was a natural for her chosen profession. Her parents worked in radio and television throughout her childhood. Megan’s career actually started at age three when she began doing radio commercial voice-overs.

An alumnus of Greenville High School, Megan graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Mass Communications. While there, she anchored and reported news and sports on the university’s TV and radio stations. She, her husband Jeff and their two young boys are proud Gamecock supporters and look forward to football season all year.

She loves athletics having played both high school and college basketball. Megan continues to stay active in sports, playing basketball and softball with Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.
Megan is amazed at the constantly emerging and innovative community that she has always called home. In her opinion, the best part of her job is the opportunity to connect with the people that make the Upstate such an exciting place to live and to experience all it has to offer.

Jack Roper started his broadcast career in radio. After several years in local Carolina radio, Jack moved to Washington, NC as a weather anchor and children’s show host at WITN-TV. He then headed out west to KENS-TV in San Antonio, TX where he was also weather anchor. He returned to South Carolina in 1986 to join the News Channel 7 team as a weather anchor.

Locally, readers of the Greenville News have also chosen him as Favorite Upstate Television Personality for two years. Roper is the former host of the program “Kidsizzle with Jack Roper,” which received the Best Children’s Program award five times from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. In 2003, Jack received an Emmy for his weather presentation in the News Channel 7 5pm newscast. Jack is now the on air host for News Channel 7’s Caring for the Carolinas Campaign. This campaign has given Jack more time to be out in the community and doing what he enjoys.

Jack spends his time outside of work performing his magic shows at area festivals and events. Jack also makes his Positive Attitude Speech at churches, civic groups, and businesses.
