President of Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce announces retirement

FOUNTAIN INN. S.C. – The Fountain InnChamber of Commerce has announced that Chamber President/CEO John Hastings, Sr. will be retiring effective November 1, 2017.

Hastings started his Chamber career as a business member on behalf of his real estate company. He went on to serve as a board member before being selected in 2010 as the Chamber’s President. Under his leadership, the Chamber has celebrated excellent growth in membership and has added numerous events and services.

“Giving back to our community has been one of many priorities for me,” said Hastings. The Chamber begins its sixth season as an official drop-off for the One Warm Coat® organization, fifth season of its “Cruise-In to Collect School Supplies”, and the ongoing collection of food for God’s Pantry. In addition to the Annual Aunt Het Festival and the Fountain Inn Christmas Parade, the Chamber will  host it’s second Christmas season of The Rebecca Tree, collecting donations for fighting cancer.

Hastings also stated, “Although this has been a tough decision to make, I look forward to my retirement. Its time for the next generation of leaders to bring forth new ideas to help insure this chamber continues to grow and move forward.”

John Mahony, 2017 Chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors, will head the Search Committee which also includes board members, Venus Poe, Attorney At Law, and Amy Riddle with Laurens Electric. Mahony said that “plans are to have the new Chamber President in place by the first of November. Hastings will be available, if needed, as a consultant for the new president. Our Chamber has greatly prospered during Hastings’ tenure. He was a part of the planning team that helped make decisions for the revitalization of downtown Fountain Inn and for Commerce Park. As Chairman of the Search Committee, we are committed to selecting the right leader to fill this important role for the Fountain Inn Chamber.”
