Mauldin continued its string of exciting announcements in February, with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new ALDI Supermarket.
That is really good news, but the location makes the news even better: the new ALDI store will be located on three acres at the corner of North Main Street and White Drive, which puts it just across the street from the planned City Center.
Even more astonishing, ALDI chose the site before anyone knew that the City Center project would soon get underway. Not only will the new ALDI Supermarket be within walking distance of the neighborhood around White Drive, but also for those people who will be living in the City Center’s sixty-five new town homes. The arrival of ALDI could not have occurred at a more opportune time.
For the February 23rd groundbreaking celebration, ALDI Director of Real Estate Robert Ochs and ALDI Regional Director of Operations Laura Clemmer were joined at the site by Mauldin City Council members, City employees, the Mauldin Chamber of Commerce, Greenville County Council members Liz Seman and Dan Tripp, and others.
Mauldin’s City Council and City employees and the Mauldin Chamber of Commerce have been putting a lot of effort into attracting new businesses into Mauldin. As Mayor Terry Merritt said in his opening remarks for the ceremony, “Mauldin is open for business.” The presence of the ALDI store will only contribute to that effort.
As Mayor Merritt also said, “The addition of ALDI gives our citizens more buying power and equally important, the new jobs that ALDI will create in our City. This location continues to set the table in creating our walkable neighborhoods with retail opportunities and connections to our citizens.”
When will Mauldin’s new ALDI Open?
Mauldin’s ALDI Supermarket is slated to open sometime this fall. The exact date will be announced as soon as it is available.
How many people will ALDI employ?
Expect ALDI to begin hiring for its Mauldin store this summer. Those interested in working at Mauldin’s ALDI should visit their website, “careers.ALDI.us”. About fifteen to twenty applicants will be offered employment at the new store.
Who is ALDI?
Originally from Germany, ALDI Discount Supermarkets opened their first store in the U.S. in 1976. In 1979, ALDI acquired the Trader Joe’s supermarket chain. Quoting Wikipedia, by February of 2020 more than 1900 stores were operating in the U.S., and that number is expected to expand to 2,500 stores by the end of 2022. That will make ALDI the third-largest grocery retailer in the U.S. by store count.
According to ALDI, “When it comes to value, ALDI won’t be beat on price.” ♣
