SFC Clyde H. Hanson
SFC Clyde H. Hanson, US Army Retired,(77) passed away on January 6, 2021 from Covid-related illness. Clyde was a resident of Fountain Inn, South Carolina at the time of his passing.
Clyde was born in southern West Viriginia to Wilburn and Willie Hanson on June 15, 1943. He had two older brothers, Lawson and Kenneth Hanson, both deceased. His family moved to Montogmery, Alabama when Clyde was a boy, and remained there through High School. Clyde was proud of his accomplishments at Robert E. Lee High School, most particularly playing the saxaphone in the Marching Band.
At 17 years old, he enlisted in the US Army. He served 3 tours in Viet Nam as a mechanic in a Search and Rescue Unit. He earned a Bronze Star for Valor, several Commendations and the Army Air Medal during his more than 24 years of service.
After he retired from the Army, he served as a civilian government employee for various contracts, his last in South Carolina where he retired fully.
He was an avid modeler and aircraft enthusiast his whole life, and was a member of a local modelers club that proudly displays his work.
He is survived by his wife Doris (72) and his children, Anna (51) and Erik (49). His grandchildren, Adrian (31) and Christopher (29), two great-grandchildren, Ava (5) and Conner (6mos). He was preceded in death by his youngest son Paul who passed away at the age of 32.
A family service was held at his home. His children and grandchildren request that friends donate to Veterans Support groups in his name in lieu of cards or flowers. ■
