Clemson Eye Among the First to Implant New PanOptix Lens

Greenville, SC (September 4, 2019)

20/20 vision is just around the corner. Clemson Eye was among the first five in the U.S. to implant the new PanOptix trifocal lens to patients undergoing cataract surgery. The PanOptix lens is the first and only trifocal intraocular lens approved in the U.S. The use of ENLIGHTEN® Optical Technology optimizes an individual’s intermediate vision in various lighting conditions without compromising his or her near and distance vision. 20 million people in the U.S. age 40 and older have cataracts. Cataracts are the most common age-related eye condition and the leading cause of preventable blindness.

Clemson Eye Surgeon,
Dr. Donald Glaser

“The PanOptix is the first-of-its’-kind trifocal implantable lens.” states Dr. Donald Glaser, one of the eye surgeons at Clemson Eye. “While other range-of-vision lenses have been available with extended focus, the PanOptix is expected (and known from European experience) to provide a strong near focus and an additional intermediate focus without detracting from the near vision. This translates into vision for driving, computer and reading at near.”

Statistics have shown that through recent studies, 99% of patients would choose the lens again, and 80% of patients reported never needing to wear glasses after the procedure.
